Helping humankind live with the earth not against it

Category: blog (Page 3 of 3)

Oh I wish I wish

there were more hours in the week!

I wanted to get a mini-episode recorded this weekend and look what time it is! 8pm on a Sunday and this is the first I thought of it!

I have a friend coming to town and will be here all next weekend, so no show then either. I did warn you there would be a break somewhere in here! Well here it is! Consider me on hiatus for a bit. if in 2 weeks my thesis-ing is intense I’ll have to put it off again. C’est la vie!

I will try and get something fun up on the blog, I have the “book-o-learning” also known as the lab book for the 101 class here. I will see if there is something fun I can pull out!

Also a listener bought something from me on my etsy show! I am so exited!

I am working on:
– drying catnip for cat toys
– a “The Fool” tarot box (yes they fit cards I checked!)
– hmmmm I’ll think of something πŸ˜‰

Dinner is cooking, and I need to get some reading done!

Take care my students! I am loving all the love and I can’t wait to share more wonderful geology with you all!

Why I Blog: Erik Klemetti (Eruptions) article on AGU website

(an article about a geology blogger I found interesting)

Why I Blog: Erik Klemetti (Eruptions)

I started blogging out of frustration with the lack of knowledgeable commentary on volcanic eruptions on the Internet in early 2008. It all came to a head when a mystery volcano in southern Chile erupted (this turned out to be the eruption of ChaitΓ©n). I searched in vain for some place that was collecting the unfolding information on the eruption and putting it in a geologic context (in other words, the opposite of most mainstream media coverage of geologic events). So, I decided to start my own blog to do just that: take all the random news reports, volcano observatory news releases, satellite images/remote sensing data, and downright rumors and offer commentary on it all through the lens of someone who studies volcanoes for a living…. The Eruptions Blog

Hey class!

Ok I feel enough like a teacher I am going to just cave and call my listeners my students!
Ok Class! Participation points!
I am going to list some topics and some questions comment or email me to participate in the show! πŸ™‚

Volcanoes:
– are they male or female or does it depend on the volcano?
– got any myths? legends? gods? goddesses?

Geologic time scale
– what in your opinion is a “long time” for you? in history? for the world? What time scale do you feel the divine works on?

Geology and you
– what do you like? what do you want to learn more about?

Ok GO! πŸ™‚

aurora, life, and yoga

Ok so I am going to mention the name of the yoga DVD I love, only because I have watched it so many times and love it, you are allowed to hate it… just sayin’ I like it

AM PM Yoga, its supper SUPPER beginner but as something for before school/after school
I really enjoy it. Its short easy and makes me feel like I have done something (yoga) and I can do it even when I don’t have a ton of time.
Also I am a college student, my brain is FULL of things I need to remember to do, things to read, and so on and so on… and this helps me shut my brain off and relax. There is also a meditation at the end of each and thats just about the only time I can manage to meditate πŸ™‚ I am working on trying to meditate at other times.
Also there is an aurora tonight!!! Guess who is going to go see if I can get some PHOTOS!!!
Also I made a box! well I made it better, I am going to add it to the etsy shop (when I finish it!) But I wanted to get my own aurora photo for it!
life: my. thesis. is. a. zombie. it. is. going. to. eat. my. brain.
Thats all!
I am going to record this weekend and I have an AWESOME feed back email to read, thats right I got one! YAY! come on guys MORE EMAILS!!!! I WANT THEM!!!! Mwahahahahahahahaha!
Ok Kathleen out!
(Thesis is making me a little crazy….)

Kathleens super fun story for today!

Ok its story time!
Once upon a time ( a few years ago ) my Prince Charming took a trip to Regina, Canada. He went to the Mountie Museum. In this museum there was a display of machine guns used to repel an invasion from the US. wait what!? Serious!? WHAT!?

Here is the story, a group of Alaskans (oh yeah!) called “The Order of the Midnight Sun” threatened to invade Canada. They never did but the Mounties took it VERY seriously!

My take? I can’t find much on this online (if you know more let me know! I love this story!)
It was about gold ( things tend to be about gold up here ) and they got drunk and either then threatened or forgot…

πŸ™‚

Anyways I wanted to share this story, I like the name “Order of the Midnight Sun”

Thats my super fun story of the day not that I have one every day but I have one for today!

Help for the next episode!

I was gifted some amazing rocks on the BRC and this weeks episode is going to be a little different and I am going to talk about the stuff I came home with!

So what I am looking for is some input ideas, pearls of wisdom, first had experience with:

Petosky Healing Stones
Vesuvianite (idocrase)
obsidian
travertine

I brought back goodies from the Black Rock btw πŸ˜‰ just sayin’
